Ladies Auxiliary Unit 1 News

Since the elections on July 1st I have hit the ground running. I was delighted to attend my first State Convention held in OKC July 11-13, 2008. Unit 1 was well represented this year with 12 Auxiliary members.
I knew as a Unit we had worked very hard last year, and it paid off at the Convention. We received a pin and a thank you for our Auxiliary Emergency Fund; Americanism received Honorable Mention; Children and Youth won second place; and our Community Service, Education, Leadership, and Poppy program activities received Certificates of Appreciation. Legislative received best narrative recognition; our Prayer Book placed third; and our Public Relations received a Certificate for Most Media Published. In Poppy arrangement competition, we took first place in corsage and general/theme and second place in religious. In the Past Presidents Parley Program, our nominee for Service Woman of the Year, Lisa Milner, and our nominee for Unit Member of the Year, Christie Rooney, received Department Certificates and were forwarded on for consideration at the National Level.
Special Congratulations to Linda Deutser on being elected 1st Vice President for the ALA Department of Oklahoma.
We had a wonderful Installation dinner on July 15th. We were most grateful to Past Department President Virginia Hare for installing our officers. Our other special guests that night were Virginia's daughter Valerie and Past Department President Myrna Ladwig.
As we start our new year, I would like to thank our Commander Zach, the Legionnaires, the Sons of the American Legion and the Legion Riders for the support they have shown and given to the Ladies Auxiliary. We could not have accomplished all that we did in the past if not for their support.
We have several things planned to start the year off right; we are planning an Auxiliary Breakfast Bingo for August 16th. We hope to see everyone there. And bring a friend!
On July 20th we lost a very valued member of our Auxiliary, Peggy Ridenour. Peggy was a gracious and vibrant soul who brought life to everyone she met; and we will sorely miss her.
Please be an "Early Bird" and send in your 2009 dues as soon as possible.
Our first Vice President (membership chairman) is waiting to process them and get your new membership card to you pronto.
