Commander's Column - Post 1 - Tulsa, OK

To the Legion Family:

We have reached that time of the year when we can renew our membership for the upcoming 2008-2009 physical year. An early response to renewing your membership helps the Post financially, as well as helping us reach our membership goals early. Members renewing before November 11 will receive the "Early-Bird" stamp on their card. If you have a problem with the $32.00 fee, please let us know. I'm sure we can work something out.

The 4th of July outing was a huge success. Our ever increasing crown enjoyed capping off Steak Night with good musical entertainment, cold beverages, and all the fireworks displays.

Please be reminded that the 1967 MG "Midget" Classic Convertible, which was donated to the Post, will be raffled off at 1600 (4:00pm) on Labor Day, September 1, 2008. All proceeds from the raffle will go into our general fund to help support Veterans and Legion activities. Raffle tickets are $5.00 each, or 6 tickets for $25.00. The automobile may be seen and inspected in our West parking lot. It is a collector classic, and gets great gas mileage.

This past year at Post 1 saw many hundreds of hours of volunteer work on the facility, bingo, clubroom, and Saturday night dance. These efforts has enhanced the Post cosmetically and financially by drawing crowds and people are excited at the efforts that are being made and enjoy coming out and participating in events the Post has to offer.

It openly shows the vital importance of what our Legion Family, working together for the good of the Post, can accomplish. We have set an important precedence now for the coming years. Our continued success can and will be repeated every year if we continue to work together in harmony as we have done this past year. Remember, The American Legion is the winner.

Congratulations to Ms. Kelli Churchill, Auxiliary President, Ed Hyams, SAL Squadron 1 Commander, and to Ken Adams, Road Captain of the Legion Riders. I look forward to working with you in the coming year.

Still Serving America,

Zachery Castillo
Commander
